Determination of fundamental properties of gaseous mixtures of interest for the gas and oil industry in the
presence of complex fluids (Research and Development Laboratory for Supercritical Fluids, Oil and Natural
Gas).

The main goal of this project linked to project 43 of the RCGI (www.usp.br/rcgi) is to establish the most
adequate experimental conditions and methodologies to determine (and then proceed with the
determinations) of fundamental properties, such as solubility, phase behaviour/phase equilibrium, viscosity,
density, pH, of gaseous mixtures (CO2, CH4, Ethane, H2S, among others) and complex fluids (salt water, crude
oil and others) in several conditions of pressure, temperature and compositions, for applications of interest
to the oil and gas industry, especially in connection with oil and gas exploration/extraction, CO2 valuation and
CO2 capture and storage. The development of the research would lead to the establishment of a database of
such properties for the direct use in several other projects in the area.

The post-doctoral candidate will develop a research project in the area of fundamental properties
determination of gaseous mixtures and complex fluids, especially in the presence of CO2, developing
experimental methodology adequate for this purpose. He/she should also collaborate with other projects of
the Supercritical Fluids Lab, such as CO2 valorisation/abatement, new materials for CO2 absorption, etc. He/she
will also help in the implantation of the Supercritical Fluids Lab, supporting equipment installation, the
training of lab personnel, the development of experimental methodology and instrumentation adequate to
this research.

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or similar
area) and previous experience with scientific research in those areas (demonstrated by publications in
international periodicals of relevance). Previous experience in post-doctoral stages in this area is desirable.
The selected candidate will receive a fellowship from FUSP – Fundação de Apoio à Universidade de São Paulo,
of the amount of R$ 6.819,30 reais monthly paid.
