The Industrial & Management Systems Engineering program at Montana State University (MSU) is seeking highly collaborative and innovative candidates for a tenure track position as assistant or associate professor (depending on qualifications). The candidate should have evidence of developing a nationally recognized and externally funded research program in a growing area of contemporary (and interdisciplinary) research related to industrial, management, or systems engineering (e.g., sustainability, cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, financial engineering, healthcare, safety culture, or user-centered design/usability engineering). Candidates will also be responsible for teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses focused in industrial and management systems engineering as well as participating in service activities to support the vitality of the program. MSU is located in the heart of Bozeman, Montana – a growing and friendly community known for ensuring quality of life with award winning outdoor recreation and entrepreneurial business opportunities.

Montana State University values a broad array of experiences and perspectives and is committed to continually supporting, promoting and building an inclusive and culturally rich campus environment. We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse university community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed. In support of our strategic plan, which promotes access and respect, we enthusiastically encourage members of traditionally underrepresented groups to apply. MSU recognizes the importance of work-life integration and strives to be responsive to the needs of dual career couples.

The new faculty member will be expected to contribute to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department, and conduct nationally-recognized externally-funded scholarly work in an emerging area of industrial or systems engineering research that affords collaboration with other MSU researchers, such as: sustainability, cybersecurity, autonomous and connected vehicles, financial engineering, healthcare, or user-centered design/usability engineering or related field as appropriate. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participation in accreditation activities and committee assignments, and service to the university, state, and profession. We hope to attract applicants who can teach in a diverse University community and have demonstrated ability in helping students from diverse backgrounds succeed.
