The Opportunity

Monash is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate as Professor/Associate Professor, Power Electrical Engineering within in the Faculty of Engineering. The faculty is recognised worldwide for the quality of teaching and strength in engineering research. The Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering spans dynamic fields of research that encompasses disciplines such as electricity, electromagnetism and electronics. Monash is building capacity to be the leading research and teaching organisation in the area of digital energy in the Asia Pacific.

Monash will be at the forefront of systemic changes to the way that electrical energy is generated, stored, distributed and used. More specifically focusing on emerging hot topics such as:

  • smart grids and smart meters
  • power systems planning, modelling, and control
  • reliability in modern power systems
  • extreme events and grid resiliency
  • large scale AC and/or DC microgrids
  • large scale utility-level energy storage
  • distributed generation and grid integration of renewable energies.

This exciting and challenging senior position requires an appointee capable of:

  • leading innovative and transformative research initiatives
  • raising the profile of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering within the University
  • building a strong and cohesive multi-disciplinary group that fosters collaboration
  • supporting curriculum design, implementation and teaching of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering in undergraduate courses and postgraduate degrees
  • dynamically engaging with industry, government and community organisations, including academic and professional societies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong reputation in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering and a capacity to deliver engineering leadership, high impact research and teaching and have in-depth knowledge of stakeholder needs.


The appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience and will be on a continuing basis.

The Benefits

Remuneration (Effective from 30 September 2017):

$140,565 – $154,853 pa Level D (plus 17% employer superannuation)

$181, 066 pa Level E (plus 17% employer superannuation)

Relocation travel, removal allowance and salary packaging are available.
