Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette). The Department is looking for a leader with a vision to lead the department through continued growth in student numbers, research expenditures, and national exposure. It is desirable for the ideal candidate to have a B.S. in Engineering with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or some closely aligned field. The College of Engineering at UL Lafayette has over 2,800 students with an annual R&D budget exceeding $6M. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UL Lafayette is the largest academic department within the College of Engineering. It has over 800 undergraduate and 30 graduate students. The department has 18 faculty, an administrative assistant, a technician, and two research faculty. More faculty hires are expected as the growth of the department has been over 10% per year for some time with continued growth expected. Annual R&D expenditures for the department average over $1M per year with this year’s expenditure expected to exceed $2M. The department offers BS through PhD degrees and is fully ABET accredited. The department houses numerous R&D facilities and is affiliated with several high profile R&D university-level units.

The university is located in Lafayette, LA, an exciting community within Louisiana’s beautiful Cajun Country. The university is the second largest in Louisiana and ranked as a Carnegie Research University with high research activity.
