The Department of Civil Engineering at Lakehead University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Geotechnical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 1, 2017. Preference will be given to those candidates with a strong background and interest in both teaching and research, including those with relevant industrial and practical experience.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous externally funded research program in his/her field of specialization. The candidate should have an interest in interdisciplinary research with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas related to geotechnical engineering: numerical modeling and simulation of geotechnical processes and soil behaviour, soil-structure interaction and buried infrastructure, geoenvironmental and geotechnical engineering for infrastructure and resource development. The candidate will be expected to supervise graduate students and instruct undergraduate and graduate geotechnical engineering courses, such as soil properties and behavior, numerical modeling of soil-structure interaction, soil dynamics and foundation engineering, landslides and slope stability, finite element analysis along with other introductory civil or general engineering courses.
The successful candidate must hold a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and a PhD in Civil Engineering or related field specialized in any area of Geotechnical/ Geoenvironmental Engineering. Must be or qualified to be a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
