The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in aerospace engineering and in mechanics and computational materials science. Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field. We seek candidates who can inspire and lead funded research scholarship, enable student success at both the undergraduate and graduate levels through teaching and mentoring, and contribute proactively to university and professional service while contributing to the diversity of the UAH academic community.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville, classified as a High Research Active institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, offers academic and research programs in the Colleges of Engineering, Nursing, Education, Science, Business, Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Professional and Continuing Studies. ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

The College of Engineering is comprised of five Departments and has the largest enrollment of the university’s five academic colleges. The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems. The College of Engineering has made recent investments in materials engineering, energy storage, cybersecurity, and systems engineering.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department offers a BS degree in both Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and an MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Systems Engineering. Our faculty is currently comprised of 19 tenure-track/tenured members and 5 full-time lecturers. Our undergraduate student body is comprised of approximately 565 aerospace engineering students and 670 mechanical engineering students. We have approximately 155 graduate students in both disciplines. Our faculty’s research interests include materials for aerospace applications and for energy storage, spacecraft propulsion, gas turbine heat transfer, electro-chemical energy conversion and storage, control of unmanned systems, applications of smart materials, and computational fluid dynamics applied to low-speed combustion and fire applications, fluid-structure interactions, high-speed aerodynamics, and aerospace vehicle design. In addition to its nationally known educational and research activities in rocket propulsion, the Department is engaged in a wide range of research activities currently funded by NSF, DOD, NASA, DOE, USDA, the State of Alabama, and several corporate sponsors.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND DEADLINE:

Application material (in pdf format) including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information (including name, address, email address and phone numbers) for at least three references, and separate statements of research plans and teaching interests, should be sent to maesearch@uah.edu.
