The Department of Engineering Management & Technology (EMT) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for a full professor faculty position, who will serve as Department Head and Burkett Miller Chair beginning August 1, 2018.

The Engineering Management & Technology Department (, part of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), offers ABET-ETAC accredited B.S. Engineering Technology Management and M.S. Engineering Management degrees.

As Department Head, applicants must have a teaching and publication record and a demonstrated ability and commitment to excelling in both research and teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in engineering management, engineering technology, or closely-related field. Other potential areas for collaboration within the department include construction management, manufacturing, and mechatronics. The successful candidate is expected to develop a research group, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, and display outstanding teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. ]The successful candidate will also be required to seek external funding, engage with both local and international stakeholders, and participate in the College’s service and outreach activities and will assume the position of leading the Engineering Management & Technology Department.

As the Burkett Miller Chair of Excellence in Management and Technology, applicants will be also expected to assist the UTC community in understanding the importance of technology; identifying and nurturing the development of technology; and assisting with the transfer of that technology to the marketplace in ways which foster economic development.

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering Management, Engineering Technology, or closely-related field
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license
  • Proven teaching and research experience of at least ten years
  • Proven administration experience of at least five years
  • Proven record of leadership and commitment to the Engineering Management/Technology profession
  • Ability to teach Engineering Management and Technology courses
  • Demonstrate exceptional promise for high-quality research supported by externally attracted and funded grants, teaching, and professional development
  • Experience in ABET accreditation as either a PEV or as a person who prepared a self-study report
  • Earnest desire to create an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, multidisciplinary teamwork, and multicultural settings
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction
  • Assist the UTC campus and the College to reach goals as specified in UTC’s and the College’s Strategic Plans
