The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August 2019. The broad areas of interests are heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. Both experimental and computational specialists are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated scholarly research and be able to collaborate with faculty members within one or more of the Department’s and/or College of Engineering’s existing or emerging areas of research strength. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core mechanical engineering classes in support of our undergraduate and graduate programs, establish an externally funded research program, and contribute to the departmental service needs.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or other closely related disciplines. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated proficiency in both written and oral communication in English. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 23 faculty members with current enrollment of approximately 575 undergraduates, many who participate in the University Honors College. Our MS and PhD programs serve approximately 60 graduate students. The College of Engineering consists of eight departments that offer BS degrees in nine disciplines, MS degrees in ten disciplines, and a PhD degree in Engineering with several concentrations. The undergraduate enrollment in the college currently stands at 3,490 and the graduate enrollment stands at almost 950. The college has 119 tenured/tenure-track full-time faculty associated with it and generally has externally funded annual research expenditures of approximately $22M.
