Faculty Position in Petroleum Engineering
School of Chemical Engineering Oklahoma State University

The Petroleum Engineering Program at Oklahoma State University seeks nominations and applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. Candidates shall have earned a doctorate in Petroleum Engineering or closely related area and display a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education. The successful applicant is expected to establish a nationally-recognized, externally funded research program. Industrial experience is considered an asset. The primary areas of interest are production engineering, midstream operations, well completions, and hydraulic fracturing and stimulation. Strong candidates in other petroleum areas will be considered. Applicants seeking a position of Associate or Full Professor must have a record of achievement that merits appointment at that level.

At present, the combined petroleum and chemical engineering faculty has 14 tenured/tenure-track faculty and four clinical faculty. Four of the tenured/tenure-track positions and three endowed chairs are dedicated to the petroleum engineering program.

We offer an undergraduate petroleum engineering minor and an M.S. degree in petroleum engineering. We are in the process of establishing a Ph.D. degree in petroleum engineering. The undergraduate minor in petroleum engineering was established at the request of industry to enhance the preparation of MAE, CHE, CIVE, BAE, EE and IE engineering students to work in the oil & gas industry. The petroleum minor requires traditional core petroleum engineering and geology courses. The minor program has grown quickly based on strong demand from industry and strong support from the university central administration, and alumni. There are currently 100 students in the minor program. The opening of the new Endeavour Undergraduate Laboratory Building will provide a state of the art, hands-on learning environment for all undergraduate engineering disciplines including the petroleum engineering minor.

We have a growing petroleum engineering research program in new laboratories at both the M.S. and Ph.D. level. We currently have twelve graduate students with a goal of expanding to 20 to 30 over the next several years. The graduate program is offering night classes to allow working professionals to obtain an on-campus graduate degree.
Oklahoma State University is geographically well positioned in one of the most active exploration areas in the country. The college has strong support from local and national oil and gas operators and service companies. There are many opportunities for collaboration and funding from our industrial partners.

Formal applications must be submitted online at Search for Chemical Engineering Faculty -Requisition/Listing 4048. Submit a single PDF file containing (i) a one-page cover letter, (ii) a curriculum vita, (iii) a statement of teaching interests and goals, (iv) a statement of research interests and goals, and (v) contact information of three references. Screening of applicants will begin as applications arrive and continue until the position is filled, contingent on available funding.
