Job Title: Post-Doctoral Researcher in Micromobility Safety, Rider Behavior Analysis and Modelling

Location: Qatar University, Doha, Qatar

Duration: 2 Years (with a possibility of extension)

Position Overview:

Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center at Qatar University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our dynamic research team for a project funded by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). This project that uses VR technology aims to investigate e-scooter rider behavior and develop safety interventions to reduce crash risks, and enhance urban mobility.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research using a VR-based e-scooter riding simulator to study e-scooter riders' behavior and risk perception.
  • Design and execute controlled experiments to assess rider behavior, safety, and safety interventions, such as road designs and dynamic message signs.
  • Collaborate with team members from Qatar University and international partners.
  • Prepare and publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Mentor graduate students and assist in writing grant proposals to support ongoing research efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering, Traffic Safety, Computer Science, Psychology, Human Factors, or a related field.
  • Strong publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience with driving or riding simulators, data analysis, and statistical modeling (e.g., using R, SPSS), and willingness to be trained on SCANeR software.
  • Experience with VR development tools (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and programming languages (e.g., C#, Python, MATLAB).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
