The School of Engineering invites applications for the Henry Rutgers Professorship in Advanced Manufacturing. Candidates with multidisciplinary expertise are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to contribute leadership to school-wide initiatives in the Advanced Manufacturing field. The position entails teaching Engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A tenured or tenure-track appointment within all academic ranks will be considered.
Candidates for the Henry Rutgers Professorship should have a strong record of research and leadership related to advanced manufacturing and technological innovation. A demonstrated history of industrial collaboration in these areas is expected. Areas of interest in advanced manufacturing include additive manufacturing, micro/nano-fabrication, renewable energy, sustainability, smart materials and composites, biomedical manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, cyber-physical systems, cloud manufacturing, novel manufacturing design, processes, and control. The candidate should have a doctorate in Engineering or a closely related field, and a joint appointment among several engineering departments is possible. The appointee will be offered a competitive salary and startup package.
The Henry Rutgers Professorship was established as part of the implementation of the 2014 University Strategic Plan, which identified the School of Engineering as one of the academic units as a major strategic priority for excellence. It coincides with the imminent completion in 2018 of the Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering, the future anchor of the School of Engineering. The 104,000 ft2 complex will house the recently established New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Institute, including facilities for research and instruction in advanced manufacturing, such as a Rapid Prototyping and Microfabrication Laboratories, and a Manufacturing Pilot Laboratory. The Henry Rutgers Professorship offers the successful candidate unique opportunities to productively utilize these facilities in building corporate partnerships in advanced manufacturing.
