Instructor in Engineering

Penn State Greater Allegheny invites applications for an Instructor in Engineering, (1-year appointment, sabbatical replacement, 36 weeks) to begin August 2017, or as negotiated. Teaching responsibilities (12 credits or equivalent each semester): Introductory courses in engineering, mechanics and/or physics. Courses may include some combination of the introductory calculus-based physics sequence (Mechanics, and Electricity and Magnetism), and engineering courses such as Dynamics, Strength of Materials, and Engineering Thermodynamics. The successful candidate will advise students, provide career guidance, and participate in campus, university, and community service activities.

Minimum qualifications: Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field. Doctorate in Engineering and previous teaching experience are preferred. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired, with preference given to candidates who are willing to adopt active-learning strategies and other reformed teaching techniques already in use at the campus. Internships, service learning, international topics, and honors study are integrated into many courses. Students at Penn State Greater Allegheny have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal, but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. The faculty are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to students and are actively engaged in research.
