Water and Environmental Engineering
The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, located in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., is a private, not-for-profit, independent, Graduate-level, research-driven institute, developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The goal of the Institute is to develop, over a period of years, indigenous R&D capacity in Abu Dhabi, addressing issues of importance to the region in critical areas such as renewable energy, sustainability, environment, water resources and microelectronics.
Starting Fall 2009, the Institute has begun offering Graduate Degree Programs in Science and Engineering disciplines, with a focus on Advanced Energy and Sustainable Technologies (

The Program in Water & Environmental Engineering at Masdar Institute currently has openings for full-time, open rank (i.e., Full, Associate and Assistant Professor) Faculty Positions, in the sub-specialties of Water & Environmental Technologies and Water Resources Engineering.
Research areas of interest within the Water & Environmental Technologies specialty, include:
(1) physical/chemical treatment processes for potable water production (e.g., membrane-based desalination technologies); (2) wastewater treatment technologies for water reuse (e.g., aerobic & anaerobic membrane bioreactors); (3) environmental biotechnology application to wastewater treatment processes (e.g., phylogenetic and proteomic techniques for microbial community profiling and process control); and, (4) ex situ hazardous waste treatment technologies.
Areas of interest within the Water Resources Engineering specialty, include:
(1) Environmental Fluid Mechanics; (2) Arid Lands Hydrology; (3) Coastal Zone Hydrology and Engineering; and, (4) Water Supply Modeling & Management.
Exceptional candidates working in other related areas of Water and Environmental Engineering will also be considered.
Job responsibilities include developing and teaching Graduate level courses, supervising Master’s and Doctoral Students, developing an externally funded research program and participating in the Institute's service and outreach activities.
Applicants should have strong records of published research, experience in supervising Graduate Students and relevant teaching experience.
An earned doctorate in a relevant field (Civil & Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline) is required for each position, as is fluency in English.
Postdoctoral or industrial research experience is considered a plus.
