POSITION PURPOSE:
     
The successful applicant will provide outstanding leadership in and make a significant contribution to the teaching, research, professional and administrative activities of the Department.

POSITION FUNCTIONS -- KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITIES:
     
1.          actively engage and contribute to the development and delivery of the Department’s Teaching Program;     
     
2.          mentor Staff in the Department and particularly encourage growth in their teaching and research activities;     
     
3.          provide strong research leadership in one or more areas of pervasive computing;     
     
4.          encourage and foster the research activities of Staff and Postgraduate Students;     
     
5.          attract research funding through competitive research grants and other funding source;     
     
6.          supervise the Program of Study of Honours Students, and coursework and research engaged by Postgraduate Students;     
     
7.          contribute significantly to the profession and/or discipline, particularly with new and emerging IT technologies;     
     
8.          foster and develop strategic alliances and partnerships within the profession, government departments and agencies, international institutions, the business sector and community organisations;     
     
9.          engage in high level administrative and management functions -- This may involve assuming the role of Head of Department.     

POSITION REQUIREMENTS -- KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
     
Essential Requirements:

1.          attainment of a Ph.D. in a relevant field;
     
2.          demonstrated ability to take a senior leadership role in research, teaching and professional activities of the Department;
     
3.          an outstanding and internationally recognised record of scholarly achievement and research within the research strengths of the Department;
     
4.          a record of achievement in attracting research grant funding and other research funds;
     
5.          demonstrated ability to supervise research projects at Honours and Postgraduate levels;
     
6.          Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.
     
7.          proven ability to manage and develop Academic Staff;
     
8.          high level of communication and management skills;
     
Desirable Attributes:

     
1.          demonstrated high quality administrative skills, including the capacity to manage budgets, marketing and student services;
     
2.          proven experience in effective engagement with government, industry, community organisation and or international institutions;

The Faculty/School/Division:

The Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering is one of five Departments within the school of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences and is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology and Engineering. The Department is a dynamic and progressive teaching and research Department, that employees 25 full-time Academic Staff to deliver a wide range of single and double degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Systems Engineering and Games Technology. The degrees are professionally accredited by the Australian Computer Society and by Engineers Australia and attract a large proportion of international Undergraduate and Graduate Students. The Department has an enviable record of successful Ph.D. supervision and has established a solid reputation for its research in areas such as Games Technology, Bioinformatics, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Pervasive Computing, Data Engineering and Knowledge Management, Computer Network Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Software Development.
