Seeks applicants for multiple faculty positions
The University of Alabama is experiencing an unprecedented level of growth and prosperity, continuing to hire new faculty, and is in the midst of adding multiple new engineering and science buildings. The Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at the University of Alabama has bolstered this success with a long record of strong undergraduate and graduate education and internationally recognized research and service activities. We invite applications from individuals that will make significant contributions in one or more of the following strategic areas: (1) computational materials engineering, (2) casting, solidification, & materials processing, (3) materials characterization, (4) emerging materials. Outstanding applicants in other areas of metallurgical and materials engineering are also encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will be joining a dynamic faculty dedicated to providing high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, conducting leading-edge basic and applied research, and supporting and enhancing the profession through educational, research and service activities. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a strong, externally-funded research program and to excel in undergraduate and graduate instruction. The University of Alabama offers many opportunities to work within a multi-disciplinary research community of on-campus centers, including the Center Materials for Information Technology and the Center for Advanced Vehicle Technology. Additionally, departmental faculty members are actively involved in managing two key central facilities, the Micro-Fabrication Facility (
http://www.mff.ua.edu) and a Central Analytical Facility (
http://www.caf.ua.edu) that offer cutting edge research tools.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in metallurgical or materials engineering, or a closely related field. Appointments will be at the assistant, associate, and/or full professor levels depending on qualifications. August 2010 or January 2011 start dates are possible. Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume, transcripts, a statement of research and teaching interests, and a list of at least three references as soon as possible.
