Why Mechanical Engineering?

Engineers are natural problem solvers, and presently there’s no shortage of real-world challenges to address. Engineering is not only where the high-paying jobs are, it’s also an opportunity to combine purpose and passion while earning a living. That’s why, for many, engineering is more than just a career, it’s a calling.

Mechanical Engineering is arguably the broadest engineering degree, one that emphasizes the fundamental engineering sciences as they apply to mechanical and thermal systems with applications in diverse areas including energy, materials, transportation, health, manufacturing, and consumer products.

Why Study Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Southern?

We pride ourselves on being applied, attentive, and accomplished. If you’re deciding between mechanical engineering programs, Georgia Southern’s mechanical engineering students do more than just read about theory. Beginning in your first semester you will gain hands-on experience in a studio or laboratory environment. Whether it be a fundamental lecture or a one-on-one research experience, upon completion you will feel confident in your abilities to help solve the engineering problems of the world.

Mechanical Engineering Degree Programs

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers one undergraduate degree program: a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). However, students can pursue an emphasis in Vehicle Design and Testing or Metal Casting.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering also offers one graduate degree program: a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME). Current undergraduate students may also apply to the Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s (ABM).
