The Department of Engineering Education (DEE) in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at the University at Buffalo invites candidates to apply for the position of Associate or Full Professor of Engineering Education. UB’s Department of Engineering Education is home to a newly approved PhD and MS in Engineering Education, an Engineering Sciences BS degree, and a Graduate Certificate in Engineering Pedagogies and Practices. Candidates will join a faculty of 19, who are emerging leaders in the field of engineering and computing education and/or expert teaching faculty whose classroom practices serve as a testbed and site of study for innovation research in engineering education.
We invite candidates with a range of research interests and specializations that either contribute to our existing specializations in equity and inclusion, engineering design and design pedagogy, computing education, and student-centered pedagogical innovation or that extend our departmental areas to include additional areas such as assessment, first year engineering, motivation, team science, global engineering, or learning in digital spaces.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in engineering education, engineering, computer science or a related field. The successful candidate will have scholarly accomplishments, teaching experience, and a sustained externally funded research program to qualify for an appointment to the rank of associate or full professor. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, mentor graduate students and junior faculty, advise students at all levels and maintain an active research program. The typical course load is three courses a year, with releases offered for administrative appointments. We are particularly interested in faculty with a willingness to contribute to departmental leadership in formal and/or informal ways.
We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a team environment and in a diverse community of students and faculty and share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potential. In DEE, this means having a commitment to equity and inclusion in daily practices of research collaboration, teaching, and organizational communication.
