The James Watt School of Engineering (JWSE) at the University of Glasgow is an energetic and growing international centre of excellence for Engineering research and teaching. The School leads research in Autonomous Systems & Connectivity; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics & Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure & Environment; and Systems, Power & Energy. We have 172 academics and 176 post-doctoral researchers supported by 62 technicians and 33 professional services staff. We also have more than 500 research students working towards doctorates.

Our School has been working in partnership with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China for over a decade and delivers a unique programme of engineering education to over 2,500 students each year.  Whilst the base of operations is Chengdu in the west of China, we have recently established a second college in Hainan, south China.  Our partnership is widely considered to be a flagship example of transnational education.

Our fundamental research, hosted on the Glasgow campus, is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect the successful appointees to complement and synergise with existing activities and to develop a network of collaborations locally (across the James Watt School of Engineering and the University) as well as to liaise with industry to translate their research to the highest impact.

Whilst this post is based at the University’s main campus in Glasgow, you will be required to live and work in Chengdu or Lingshui Li’an for the equivalent of a semester (18-20 weeks) each year, for the discharge of your teaching duties.

We are seeking to appoint multiple positions at Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant and Associate Professor)  Reader and Professional levels who will contribute and lead on teaching, research and scholarship in areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (e.g. in Microelectronics, Power Engineering, Engineering Design, Digital Design, Embedded Systems, Communications, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and other relevant fields).

We particularly welcome applications from women and other under-represented groups in engineering to deliver a balanced workforce.

Relocation packages available subject to eligibility criteria.
