The Real-time COntrol Optimization Laboratory (RT-COOL) group at Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University is hiring PhD students. The RT-COOL is equipped with state-of-the-art real-time simulators and controllers to test and validate the developed real-time models and control algorithms. The group focuses on distributed control, energy and power management, control in smart grids, artificial intelligence and optimization, power electronics and control, and cyber-physical systems with a possible emphasis on smart electric grids. The candidate students will involve in Army-related projects to develop multi-objective control methodologies for electrical vehicles and microgrids under the supervision of Dr. Gokhan Ozkan and Dr. Chris Edrington. The student’s responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing presentations and reports for the research effort prepare conference and journal manuscripts. Students’ tuitions and stipend (≈$28,000/year) will be paid from sponsored research projects. The position is a fully-funded Research Assistant (RA) position. Students will be expected to start the program in Fall 2022, and students who are located in the US or hold valid US student visas are strongly encouraged to apply for the position. Qualifications: • Graduated from Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering Major(s) or related area(s) • Master degree in major given above • Advanced English skills in academic writing and speaking • Programming languages: Matlab/ Simulink, LabVIEW, Python (preferred but not required) • Experience in Real-time Modeling, Simulation, and Hardware-in-the-loop (preferred) • Power electronics and machine modeling Application Submission Details: 1.
