Job Description:
Work with a fun, dynamic team at the Clemson Composites Center (CCC). We are seeking applications for Ph.D. students to join as graduate research assistants. The student(s) will be required to work closely with current employees at CCC and personnel from government agencies such as the Department of Energy (DOE) and OEMs such as HONDA to manufacture a composites intense Body-in-white (BiW) structure.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development, testing, and performance evaluation of thermoset materials and processes such as high-pressure resin transfer molding, wet compression molding, and injection molding
- Develop process and mechanical property data cards for FEA evaluation
- Analyze results of studies and summarize findings in technical reports
- Assist in the preparation of reports and other documentation
- Other duties as assigned
Key Requirements:
- Strong background in polymer science, characterization and/or polymer processing is preferable
- Experience in polymer characterization techniques such as DSC, TGA, TMA, DMA, and rheometer
- Readiness to conduct independent literature review and literature search based on tasks assigned
- Capability to solve problems independently through scientific reasoning and a thorough understanding of
the concepts involved
- Adequate experience/readiness to learn MS Excel and Python/MATLAB
Other Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with polymer process simulations software such as Moldex 3D or Moldflow and 3D printing
processes for polymers and plastics
- Familiarity with process automation and data acquisition (Matlab or equivalent) is preferred
