ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, BRIDGE DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of bridge design and construction (Position 25654) with a start date of January 1, 2019.
The successful candidate:
1) Must hold undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering or a related area;
2) Must be registered or eligible for registration as a member of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba;
3) Will be expected to develop and teach civil engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
4) Will be expected to establish an externally funded and sustainable research program; and
5) Must possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
We are particularly interested in candidates who complement existing expertise in the department and who have a demonstrated record of research and publications in the area of bridge design and construction, with related expertise and applications in one or more of the following: reliability and risk analysis in bridge engineering, steel bridge design and analysis, finite element analysis or bridges, dynamic analysis of bridges. The Structural Engineering Group of the Civil Engineering Department has established collaborations both within the Department and the Faculty and with external industry. Its funding comes from NSERC, the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, and other industries.
The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has twenty one faculty members, thirteen support staff, and approximately three hundred undergraduate and one hundred and fifty graduate students. One third of faculty members and twenty eight percent of students are female at both undergraduate and graduate level.
