Position Description:

The Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Geotechnical Engineering, preferably at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department has established research activities in environmental engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, construction materials, and water resources engineering.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching across its undergraduate and graduate programs in Civil Engineering, and values service contributions of its faculty members to the University, the profession and society at large.

As our students come from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, we invite candidates to address their ability in their application to effectively teach, supervise, and mentor in this context.

Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with a first degree in Civil Engineering. Evidence of outstanding research achievements, or research potential, is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with a doctoral degree in geotechnical engineering, who have demonstrated research and teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas: novel methods in geomechanics, physical modeling in geotechnics, energy geotechnics, unsaturated soil mechanics, soil dynamics, and soil-structure interaction. A strong background in experimental and numerical research is required. Additional experience in experimental geomechanics and geotechnical engineering for cold regions will be considered an asset, along with the capability to teach advanced courses in numerical modeling in geomechanics, unsaturated soil mechanics, and soil dynamics.

Salary:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
