Tenure-track Faculty Position in Theoretical / Computational Materials Science
The Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (hajim.rochester.edu/me/) at the assistant professor level. Expected starting date is July 2022.
Applicants doing research in theoretical and/or computational materials science, especially in superconducting materials, are strongly encouraged to apply. Research areas that complement existing strengths at the University of Rochester include modeling and design of quantum materials such as high-temperature superconductors; predicting the interplay among temperature, pressure, and stability; and applications to fields like quantum information science. Strong applicants in related areas are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to have potential for, and commitment to, establishing an independent, extramurally funded research program; advising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; participating in the Department’s activities; and teaching innovative graduate and undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field. The Department is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and identify their relevant strengths and experiences.
The University of Rochester is a private research university located in upstate New York, a region famous for its diverse cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities. The University offers the opportunity to contribute to an exceptionally rich and highly collaborative research environment. The Department is the site of the recent discovery of room-temperature superconductivity; additionally, the University is home to related, multidisciplinary research organizations including the Materials Science Program, the Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures, the Goergen Institute for Data Science, and the Laboratory for Laser Energetics.
Review of candidates will begin on October 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled.
Candidates should submit the following application materials at https://www.rochester.edu/faculty-recruiting:
- Cover letter
- Three representative publications
- Statement of research interests and plans
