The applicant is expected to (not limited to):
• Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and skills that are directly relatable to the center's work, by providing examples of previous contributions to research or consulting projects in the related field to fulfill the research priorities of QTTSC, Qatar University, and the State of Qatar.
• Apply and secure external funding for research activities related to requirements of QTTSC.
• Engage in outstanding scholarly activities leading to national, regional, and international recognition.
• Promote partnerships and support collaboration with external organizations inside and outside Qatar.
• Conduct specialized workshops such as short courses or seminars on the following areas: traffic engineering, urban traffic control, and operation (including for connected and autonomous vehicles), modeling and simulation tools in service of the development of traffic engineering, human factors in traffic engineering, and enhancement in traffic safety.
• Teach one course per academic semester.
• Supervise graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) theses.
• Assist in the acquisition and management of research equipment and infrastructure.
• Disseminate research results through internationally recognized peer-reviewed high-impact journals, educational programs, and presentations.
Successful applicants should be able to:
1. Be able to adopt and develop a “student-centered” approach to teaching and learning,
2. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department,
3. Develop expertise in using course Learning Management Systems software such as Blackboard to support taught courses and assessment,
4. Contribute to collaborative research, consulting, and short courses in conjunction with local industries,
5. Contribute to a collegiate atmosphere in the Center, Department and College, and
6. Advise undergraduate students and be involved effectively in service duties such as capstone project reviews, design juries, committee work, and curriculum development.
Qualifications
The successful candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an internationally recognized university with an outstanding research profile in traffic engineering. They should also have expertise in the relevant areas and a track record of scholarly activities in the field. The English language is essential. Candidates with industrial experience will be looked at favorably. Experience in managing research projects and/or professional practices will also be advantageous. The candidate will be appointed to this vacancy to advance the mission of the University and the Center to excel in research, teaching, and community engagement while demonstrating expertise in traffic engineering, urban traffic control and operation (including for connected and autonomous vehicles), modeling and simulation tools in service of the development of traffic engineering, human factors in traffic engineering and enhancement in traffic safety.
Besides this, the candidate needs to show:
• A distinguished research record and international reputation evidenced by high-quality publications in leading journals.
• Excellent record of supervising high-caliber research students.
• Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships within the profession and industry.
• Evidence of obtaining research grants from external stakeholders such as government agencies or industries.
• Research experience in one or more of the following areas: traffic engineering, urban traffic control and operation (including for connected and autonomous vehicles), modeling and simulation tools in service of the development of traffic engineering, human factors in traffic engineering, and enhancement in traffic safety.
• Knowledge of current trends in the professional practices in the field.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Teaching experience at the tertiary level.
• Familiar with educational technologies used in higher education.
