The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering at Florida Atlantic University is inviting applications for two tenure-track positions at Assistant, Associate, or Full professor levels in the broad areas of maritime autonomy and robotics, involving autonomous underwater and surface vehicles; marine sensing; naval architecture; coastal resilience, and other traditional and emerging areas in ocean engineering.
The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering (OME) at FAU has a student body of 500 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The ocean engineering program was initiated in 1965 as the first undergraduate ocean engineering program in the country. Today, in addition to the Boca Raton facilities, the program extends to the ocean-side SeaTech research and education facility in Dania Beach. Florida Atlantic University is a state-funded university comprising of ten colleges. Established in 1964, it is currently spread over six campuses with the main campus located in Boca Raton. FAU is designated a high research university under the Carnegie Classification. The College of Engineering and Computer Science has a student body of approximately 3,000 undergraduate and 400 graduate students and offers BS, MS and PhD degree programs in computer, electrical, civil, mechanical, ocean, environmental and geomatic engineering, and computer science. The academic programs of the College are complemented by the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (ISENSE) and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI), both designated as FAU’s pillars of research excellence.

Must have a doctorate degree from an accredited institution in ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field by time of application required.
Successful candidates at the assistant professor level are expected to establish a strong independent research program, while successful candidates at the associate and full professor level are expected to be engaged in strong on-going sponsored research activities.
All candidates are expected to demonstrate commitment to collaboration with the research groups in the Department, and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate level, while promoting a climate that values diversity in all its forms.
