A Level B Postdoctoral Research Fellow academic is expected to carry out a team research within the field in which he/she is appointed and to carry out activities to develop his/her research expertise relevant to the particular field of research. The Research Fellow has to demonstrate outstanding contributions to School of Engineering publication, and deliver high expectations in research. He/she is expected to publish a minimum of two Q1 papers (with one paper in a top 10% journal) per annum as the first author.
The project aims in developing surface acoustic wave devices as monolithic sensor prototypes suitable for sensing environmental parameters, and matches relevant industry standards. The project involves fundamental investigations in synthesis and characterization of polymer and nano-material based sensing medium to selectively detect environmental parameters such as relative humidity and typical gases. Further could involve integrating suitable electronics and machine learning principles to function as standalone microchip for environmental sensing applications. The project aimed for high quality publication and prototype at TRL 5 and above.
This role reporting to the Project Leader.
Term: 12 month and an extension of further 12 month subject to satisfactory performance.
Conduct a specified research program under the supervision and direction of your Project Leader;
Contribute to publishing high quality scholarly papers;
Contribute to IP and prototype development at TRL 5 and above.
Support, if required, the preparation and development of proposals and progress reports for research funding;
Mentor and assist, as appropriate and as directed, the graduate research students and final year undergraduate students associated with your research group;
Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group;
Take responsibility as requested for day-to-day advice and support of graduate research students associated with your research group.
The appointee will have:
A PhD in the Electrical & Instrumentation engineering discipline area or closely related to Microelectromechanical Systems/Sensors and Electronics subject field, or evidence of submission, with a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievements and significant experiences in the relevant discipline area;
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to undertake quality research in the area of specialization including a record of refereed publications;
The commitment and potential to undertake independent research and professional work and to attract research and industry funding;
A minimum of one year research experience in the relevant field from the date of PhD award is essential;
Candidate with industry experience or worked on projects in PhD or post PhD related to industry problems, filed IPs, or experience with commercialization will be of added advantage;
Ability to generate new ideas and links and builds upon existing ideas to generate unique concepts and solutions;
Willingness and capacity to contribute to collegiate activities related to research

School of Engineering
The School of Engineering continues to grow rapidly, particularly in the delivery of undergraduate programs, and through the expansion of its facilities and infrastructure. In addressing global engineering challenges of the 21st century, the expansion of research activities in our Malaysian campus is of high priority for the University, reflected by the significant increase of school collaborative partnership with the industry sector, and through the offering of the Higher Degrees by Research, the Master of Engineering Science (Research) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The School currently has close to 1,500 undergraduate students, consisting of approximately 70 academic staff, and 42 professional and technical support staff.
