Tenure-Track Faculty Position – Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing

The Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University invites applications from outstanding scholars for a tenure-track position in the area of Advanced Manufacturing at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.
The ideal candidate will show innovation and excellence in research and teaching in the area of advanced and digital manufacturing. They are expected to have experience and research focusing on experimental and computational approach in advanced manufacturing, and integration of CAD/CAM into digital manufacturing. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, additive manufacturing processes, artificial intelligence/machine learning in optimization and diagnostics/prognostics for manufacturing, sustainable design for manufacturing, development of scalable micro/nano manufacturing, novel manufacturing techniques and experimental materials science of manufacturing processes.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the top departments for Mechanical Engineering in Canada with McMaster ranking highly for research intensity, impact of its research and its industry engagement. The department has 24 faculty members with expertise in mechanics & design, manufacturing, thermofluid sciences, and biomedical engineering. The department mentors over 500 undergraduate students and approximately 150 graduate students. The university, government and industry partners continue to make substantial investments in advanced manufacturing research infrastructure to strengthen our problem-based approach to learning and research.
Applicants will hold a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, and must demonstrate a successful record of research, reflected in extramural grant acquisition and publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses. They will also be expected to establish a strong externally-funded research program, supervise graduate students, and foster existing or new collaborations with other departments and faculties. Evidence of leadership skills, excellence in service, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures is also required.
McMaster’s large, attractive campus, the interior of which is open only to pedestrians and cyclists, is at the western end of Lake Ontario. The University is minutes from downtown Hamilton, a city rich in history and culture with a vibrant arts community. Nearby recreational and conservation attractions include Cootes Paradise, the Bruce Trail, the Niagara Escarpment, the Waterfront Trail, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Surrounded by spectacular nature and unique neighbourhoods, Hamilton is ideally located halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls.
