The Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering seeks outstanding candidates to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the area of Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) with expertise in one or more of the following areas related to finance and automation of constructed facilities: finance of large-scale construction projects, economics and cost engineering, financing structures of constructed facilities and built infrastructure, project valuation and appraisal, risk allocation, bankability and mitigation in project-financed transactions, construction insurance and liabilities, public-private financing models, innovative developments in construction automation such as digitalization, virtualization and remote sensing technologies in the delivery of constructed facilities. Exceptional candidates in other related emerging areas of Construction Engineering and Management will also be considered. The appointment is intended to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level may also be considered.

Qualifications and assets
All applicants must hold a PhD in Construction Engineering and Management, or related areas in Civil Engineering. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferably in Quebec, is required. Academic and professional excellence is of prime importance. The candidate will conduct independent scholarly research, attract strong external funding and demonstrate industrial application of their research activities. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to the supervision of MASc and PhD students, and to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Excellent communication skills are required, and industry experience is an asset.
Applicants must indicate how their expertise would complement existing research and teaching in CEM in the Department and raise its profile in this area. The successful applicant must complement and strengthen the overall capacity for research and teaching of faculty members in the Department.
The language of instruction at Concordia University is English, however, knowledge of French is an asset. As one of the largest cities in North America, Montreal has a strong construction industry, and the candidate will have potential opportunities to establish contacts with the local industry and build a highly collaborative and impactful research program.

The Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering has a faculty complement of 42 professors active in various areas of building, civil and environmental engineering and its strength has rapidly grown in recent years. The Department offers PhD, master’s and bachelor degrees in Building Engineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The Civil Engineering undergraduate program was recently ranked among the top 20 civil engineering programs in the world.
