Position Description: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas invites applications for outstanding candidates to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August 2023.  We seek individuals with research and teaching interests in ‘next-generation transportation’.  Examples include, but are not limited to, smart mobility, unmanned aerial mobility, AI for transportation systems, advanced air mobility, modern aerospace technologies, and electric vehicles.  The position is well aligned with university and state strategic priorities as the University of Arkansas and the Northwest Arkansas region are at the center of an emerging hub for next-generation transportation technologies - see for example recent news regarding the Arkansas Council on Future Mobility (https://nwacouncil.org/2022/02/23/arkansas-stakes-claim-to-be-global-leader-in-next-generation-transportation-by-2030/) and Walton Grant (https://talkbusiness.net/2022/07/412k-walton-grant-to-ua-focuses-on-smart-mobility/).  Both experimental and computational specialists are encouraged to apply.  The ideal candidate will have demonstrated scholarly activity and potential to collaborate with faculty members/groups within one or more of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the College of Engineering’s existing or emerging research areas.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach core mechanical engineering classes in support of our undergraduate (including a BSME-Aerospace Concentration) and graduate programs, and contribute to departmental service needs.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or earned by August 2023) in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a very closely related field. Applicants should demonstrate potential for high-quality research, securing competitive research funding, generating high-quality publications, teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, and providing appropriate service to the department, university, and profession. Successful candidates will demonstrate collaborative and interdisciplinary synergy with existing research strengths on-campus, have excellent communication skills, and have a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
