Post-Doctoral Researcher Position in Seismic RC Structural Testing and Modeling
at the University of Notre Dame

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to work on a new project funded by the National Science Foundation and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute at the University of Notre Dame (UND). The project is entitled "Analysis, Design, and System-Level Performance of Repairable Precast Concrete BRB Frames under Seismic Loads," and is conducted in collaboration with the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and Clemson University (CU). The project tasks include reinforced concrete buckling-restrained brace (BRB) component tests at UND, numerical modeling at CU, and system-level precast concrete building earthquake response tests using the six-degree of freedom NHERI Large High-Performance Outdoor Shake Table at UCSD. Accompanying design and design-level modeling/analysis tasks will also be conducted at UND. Key roles of the post-doctoral researcher will be to: 1) coordinate and integrate the research activities conducted at the three universities; 2) work with precast concrete industry partners on specimen production, delivery, construction, repair, and demolition; and 3) co-advise the UND PhD and undergraduate students together with the PI. The project duration is 3 years and it is expected for the post-doc to work full time on the project for this duration. A PhD in civil engineering with demonstrated high-quality research on concrete structures, earthquake engineering, and large-scale laboratory structural testing is required. Candidates must have the ability and motivation to participate in collaborative efforts with other researchers as well as industry professionals. Inquiries and applications should be submitted via email to the project PI, Dr. Yahya Kurama at ykurama@nd.edu. Applications should be submitted as a single PDF with cover letter, detailed CV, statement of research interests, and names and contact information for three references. Review of applications will begin as they are received and will continue until the position is filled. The University of Notre Dame is committed to diversity in education and employment, and women and members of underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
