This project is on the Development of Novel Additive-Manufacturing Enabled High Efficiency Compact Heat Exchangers. Compact heat exchangers are routinely used in aerospace, automotive, power, and process heating and cooling applications which often require complex trade-offs between conflicting design and performance parameters over a broad range of operating conditions. However, conventional heat exchangers are produced using established manufacturing techniques which severely constrain the heat exchanger topology and geometry which in turn limits the heat exchanger performance. The advent of additive manufacturing (AM) offers many advantages in particular design freedom to create unique channels and fin structures which are not possible or very difficult to be achieved by conventional manufacturing techniques. The Research Fellow will design novel high efficiency compact heat exchangers taking advantage of the design freedom offered by additive manufacturing follows by the experimental validation of prototypes.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree (Mechanical Engineering) specializing in the area of heat transfer from a reputable university, with strong background in CFD & experimental work and have good written and verbal communication skills. Personal qualities such as the ability to take initiative and to work independently, having a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills and commitment to deliver results would be much valued.
