Research Assistant Professor in Structural Earthquake Engineering and Structural Robustness (Ref. 230926005)
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Construction and Environment. It enjoys a high reputation in conducting application-oriented research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong. It offers academic programmes at various levels. In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department currently offers 5 undergraduate programmes; and has about 45 regular faculty members and 37 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The Department is seeking a highly motivated and suitably qualified individual with research expertise in one of the following areas: Structural Earthquake Engineering, Structural Robustness under Extreme Loads, Risk and Hazard Assessment, and Nonlinear Structural and Dynamic Analysis. The work will support the activities of the Global STEM Chair Professor in Earthquake Engineering and Structural Integrity.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;
(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;
(c) contribute to departmental service; and
(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the STEM Chair Professor or Head of Department, or his/her delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a doctoral degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline;
(b) have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;
(c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;
(d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and
(e) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two years initially, with possibility of extension.
