Utah State University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position in cybersecurity engineering.  It is expected that this position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level; however, candidates with exceptional experience will be considered at the rank of (full) Professor. Applicants should have expertise in cybersecurity engineering in areas such as:

• Computer hardware or embedded system security
• Power system security
• Control, guidance, navigation, autonomous system security
• Communication system security
• Sensors and signal processing system security.

A faculty position has opened to develop the focus area of cybersecurity engineering. The hired faculty member will be involved in designing curriculum and creating and teaching courses and hands-on laboratory experiences to provide students the knowledge and skills that make them highly qualified to join the cyber workforce in the industry, government, and national labs. The successful applicant will also contribute to the research efforts within the department and across the broader university community.

The search committee will begin considering applications on October 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applications should be submitted prior to that date. Anticipated start dates are in step with the academic calendar and include January 2024 and August 2024.

Responsibilities:
Successful tenure-track applicants will be expected to develop and supervise a vibrant externally-funded program of research, and form inter-disciplinary collaborations with other faculty in the ECE Department and the university. They will also be expected to be an effective teacher at both the undergraduate and the graduate levels. An ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong record of, or potential to: obtain externally-funded research, produce peer reviewed journal publications, recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, become an effective classroom teacher, and provide meaningful service to Utah State University, the citizens of Utah, and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in fundamental areas related to cybersecurity engineering (programming; software engineering; operating systems; real-time embedded systems; systems engineering; cyber science; cybersecurity fundamentals, concepts, and tools; legal, professional and ethical issues in cybersecurity; cybersecurity applied to sensors, control, communication, computing, and power systems) as well as in the candidate’s specific area of research emphasis in accordance with departmental needs.
  • Ability to conduct and disseminate research in areas related to cybersecurity engineering.
  • Ability to apply for, and secure, extramural funding

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant industry, consulting, or research experience are favorable.
