Position Overview
The Lafferty Endowed Chair in Electrical Engineering focuses on Microelectronics and MEMS. Microelectronics and MEMS systems is a major research thrust that supports and further strengthens other existing Opus College of Engineering research areas including smart sensors systems, embedded and AI systems, power/energy/power-electronics, computer engineering and bioelectronic systems. Strengthening these research areas will have a significant impact on a broad range of practical applications such as homeland security, healthcare, the environment, and transportation. Duties and Responsibilities
Applications are invited for the Lafferty Endowed Chair in Electrical Engineering at the junior faculty level in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Opus College of Engineering at Marquette University. The tenure-track or tenured faculty will be at the level of assistant or associate professor in Microelectronics and/or MEMS design and fabrication, with emphasis on one or more of the following application areas: smart sensors (including but not limited to bioelectronic, physical, chemical, and photonic) for embedded systems, AI and IoT systems; next-generation devices for power electronics (including devices for future power electronics used in electric vehicles and aircraft). The endowed chair will have access to two key resources: first, a Class-1000 cleanroom and electronic device fabrication facility and second a research space consisting of the Advanced Microsystems Research Laboratory, which includes a Class-100 cleanroom area for testing devices and secondary areas for materials characterization. For this endowed position, the qualifications include a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or other related engineering field; evidence of 1) high-quality research, 2) high quality teaching, 3) attracting extramural funds, 4) capability to build a coherent interdisciplinary research program and 5) capability to build a network of research collaborations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required qualifications of the candidate are: * Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or other related engineering or science fields * Level of professional accomplishment in research, teaching and service that merits appointment at a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor level * International reputation as a scholar and educator in the sensor systems field as may be attested by professional awards by international engineering societies such as IEEE, service on editorial boards of international journals, archival journal publications with high impact on the field, extramural research funding to sustain large research programs, mentorship of graduate students who themselves become major contributors to the field, authorship of widely adopted textbooks and widely adopted novel curriculum development efforts * Energy and enthusiasm to coordinate a coherent interdisciplinary smart sensor systems research and education programs
