The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is seeking applications for a Lead Principal Research Scientist Engineer.The Lead Principal Research Scientist Engineer will provide leadership over a specific or small range of closely related research areas relevant to the Applied Research Center (ARC) lab. Conducts research and establishes external funding for the lab.
Essential Functions
Establishes vision and maintain focus of the lab in alignment with the Applied Research CenterDirector.
Supervises lab employees which includes professional development, annual performance reviews, and regular meetings to maintain progress toward the lab vision.
Leads research and development projects requiring the applications of professional engineering orscientific practices and principles. Secures funding for the lab based on current and futureresearch trends within the specific lab focus.
Interfaces with US Government, industry, faculty, staff, and students with a focus on relevantapplied research. Develops proposals, budgets, schedules, and progress reports and presents results to internal or external stakeholder.
Advises faculty, principal research scientists and engineers, postdoctoral fellows, students, andstaff with design, modification, prototype, processes, analysis procedures, and other engineeringsolutions.
Designs and fabricates equipment, materials, systems utilizing engineering practices and principles. Performs failure analysis and other issues.
Operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment. May manage local computer systems forlaboratory functionality.
Ensures supplies are available and operational for use in projects.
Prepares technical reports for long and short-range planning.
May perform other duties as assigned.
