We seek a highly motivated, dedicated Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct innovative research for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Convergence Accelerator funded project " The Urban Flooding Open Knowledge Network (UF-OKN): Delivering Flood Information to AnyOne, AnyTime, AnyWhere "
https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2033607&HistoricalAwards=f…The postdoc will work with the research group of Professor Ximing Cai in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of the project.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The postdoc fellow is to lead 1) developing an online crowdsourcing platform to collect, manage, process, and present crowdsourced data on urban flooding observation and assessment, e.g., rainfall intensity, water level, and flood inundation extent; 2) coupling the crowdsourcing platform to an agent-based model that simulates flood evacuation; 3) collaborating with the project partners for both providing data to and receiving data from UFOKN modeling and data sources.
- Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, or a relevant field by the start date
- Demonstrated skills in computer programming, with experience in Python, Java, C/C++, or similar computer languages
Applicants with experiences in crowdsourcing, flood modeling, agent-based modeling, and/or data mining and machine learning are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to be highly motivated, have strong communication skills in oral and written English, and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
