The Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Control Systems at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.

The position is open to candidates with expertise in all areas of control systems, including but not limited to autonomous systems, robotics, cyber-physical systems, and intelligent control. As part of LSU ECE's strategic growth in autonomy, digital systems, and industrial innovation, the successful candidate will join a vibrant and expanding program at the state's flagship university.

Position Focus and Research Areas

We seek outstanding candidates whose research advances both the theoretical foundations and real-world applications of control systems and autonomy. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • AI-Enabled and Learning-Based Control: Reinforcement learning for control, adaptive and robust control under uncertainty, and data-driven modeling.
  • Autonomous Systems and Robotics: Planning, perception, and control for aerial, ground, or marine vehicles; human-robot interaction; and multi-agent systems.
  • Digital Twins and Cyber-Physical Systems: Modeling, simulation, synchronization, and predictive control for real-time, intelligent systems.
  • Industrial and Process Automation: Advanced process control, manufacturing robotics, and automation of safety-critical or complex industrial systems.

Applicants with significant industrial experience or a track record of translating research into practical applications are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Assistant Professor
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence and external funding.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • A research portfolio that demonstrates the application of advanced control theory to challenging physical systems.
  • A strong industrial background is highly desirable.We welcome candidates who have led or contributed significantly to the development and deployment of control systems in an industrial R&D setting.

Associate Professor
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
  • 4 years of experience beyond Ph.D.
  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence and external funding.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A research portfolio that demonstrates the application of advanced control theory to challenging physical systems.
  • A strong industrial background is highly desirable.We welcome candidates who have led or contributed significantly to the development and deployment of control systems in an industrial R&D setting.
  • A distinguished international reputation and a proven track record of leadership, funding, and mentorship.

Full Professor
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
  • 8 years of experience beyond Ph.D.
  • Demonstrated record or strong potential for research excellence and external funding.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A research portfolio that demonstrates the application of advanced control theory to challenging physical systems.
  • A strong industrial background is highly desirable.We welcome candidates who have led or contributed significantly to the development and deployment of control systems in an industrial R&D setting.
  • A distinguished international reputation and a proven track record of leadership, funding, and mentorship.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a nationally and internationally recognized research program.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in control, robotics, dynamics, and related areas.
  • Mentor and advise graduate (M.S./Ph.D.) and undergraduate students.
  • Publish in high-impact journals and present at premier conferences.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and engage with industry, national laboratories, and government agencies.
  • Contribute to service at the division, college, university, and professional levels.

About the Division

Faculty in the ECE Division are actively engaged in cutting-edge research across power, communications, computing, control systems, and electronics, with six faculty members recognized as NSF CAREER awardees.

Additional Information

Campus interviews will be conducted in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, prior to an offer being extended. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
