As part of UC Davis’ commitment to hire leading research faculty with a clear commitment to teaching, research, and service that will promote the success of diverse student communities, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a tenure track Associate or Full professor faculty position in the area of pavement engineering. Requirements include a doctoral degree in engineering or a related field and demonstrated success in research, engagement with external partners, and teaching along with a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion within the engineering community and academia.
As one of the country’s leading R1 institutions, UC Davis seeks candidates with an exceptional record of research, teaching, engagement in implementation, and inclusive excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a significant independent research program in pavement engineering related to the resiliency, durability, and sustainability of transportation infrastructure. Areas of special interest include, but are not limited to, improving the structural, functional, economic and environmental performance of pavement structures and materials in projects, and when considered as networks of pavement assets. Example research can include development and evaluation of novel pavement materials and structures; pavement material reuse and recycling; development of guidelines and specifications to support pavement innovations, new technologies and adaptions to climate change; and methods and applications of life-cycle cost and environmental analysis of pavement systems at different scales. Candidates should have a strong background in fundamental pavement mechanics with strengths in physical, numerical, or systems modeling and a strong track record of engagement with external partners.
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of members from historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities in higher education. The successful candidate will have an accomplished track record of socially conscious teaching, research, or service activities and a clearly articulated vision of how their work at UC Davis will continue to contribute to the University’s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population and the needs of the state. The applicants’ track record of engagement and activity related to diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion as well as their plans for future engagement will be an important part of the overall evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications for a faculty appointment.
The faculty hire for this position will have a home in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and is expected to have a leadership role in the University of California Pavement Research Center (UCPRC). Hiring is expected to be at the Associate or Full Professor level. Applications should be submitted by December 18, 2020 to assure full consideration.
