The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth proposes to hire a tenure-track Computer Engineering (CPE) faculty member at the assistant or associate professor level with specializations including but not limited to edge devices and edge AI, agentic AI, quantum AI, AI/ML for security and resilience, and security and resilience of AI/ML architecture/algorithms in applications including cyber-physical systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and human-centered computing and assistive technologies. The preferred candidate's interdisciplinary research focus will be in an area such as smart cities, healthcare, robotics and automation, aerospace and unmanned systems, biomedical applications, and transportation systems. Applicants with research interests in marine-oriented embedded systems are also encouraged to apply to support the campus and regional focus on the blue economy. The preferred candidate would have relevant research/dissertation experience that complements one or more of these areas.

The successful candidate should be engaged in scholarly work that is of very high quality as evidenced by external peer review. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to build an externally funded research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students and to develop partnerships with industrial partners. Candidates should also be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses and support and expand curricular development in Computer Engineering. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills and must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Junior faculty are also encouraged to perform service activities at all levels of the University.

Minimum qualifications: 

An earned doctorate in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded before the start of the appointment.
