We welcome applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank or professor of practice at the Assistant rank to begin fall 2026. While we encourage candidates from any specialty within Mechanical Engineering to apply, experience that supports our manufacturing and materials curriculum is strongly desired.
Requirements for a tenure-track appointment include a doctorate degree (by the start of employment) and a baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Requirements for a professor of practice appointment include a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field and at least ten years of relevant industry experience. Essential job functions include teaching and advising students; service to the department, Institute, and professional communities; and professional development.

- A statement that discusses your teaching philosophy and accomplishments, while demonstrating that you share our passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
- A statement that discusses your professional development objectives. Note that Rose-Hulman broadly defines professional development as “continued intellectual growth throughout one’s career.” Flexibility, adaptability, and a demonstrated willingness and ability to stay current are important characteristics in faculty members. They are expected to be aware of new knowledge in their disciplines and to acquire and use it. To that end, research programs, particularly those which involve students, are especially useful. Other examples include off-campus professional employment and/or research; publication of journal articles, studies, and books; presentation of papers for professional meetings; attendance at seminars and short courses; and professional consulting. Professional development may include scholarship in all its forms, including the scholarships of discovery, integration, application, teaching, and learning.
