Postdoctoral Research Associate in Transportation Engineering
The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geomatics Engineering (CEGE) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Transportation Engineering. The FAU Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Lab is a state‐of‐the‐art transportation laboratory that excels in both traffic simulation and field experiments. The FAU ITS lab has its automated vehicle test fleet and equipment, and our group has successfully conducted over 15,000 miles of real-world field experiments. The FAU ITS lab also has excellent working collaboration with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), with multiple funded research projects every year.
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering (CEGE) is highly active in sponsored research focused on urban mobility/infrastructure and water resources/environmental sustainability. The Department hosts the Freight Mobility Research Institute (fmri.fau.edu), which is a TIER 1 University Transportation Center sponsored by the US Department of Transportation with focus area of supply chain, transportation and logistics research and education.
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is currently serving around 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students including a significant number of postdoctoral researchers. FAU ranks as the most racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse institution in Florida’s State University System. FAU is classified as a High Research Activity institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Research is taking place across a broad spectrum of disciplines, with special emphasis placed upon the university’s three signature themes – marine and coastal issues, biotechnology, and contemporary societal challenges. For more information, please see www.fau.edu/research.
Florida is the third most populous state in the US with forecasted continued growth. It provides a diverse environment for transportation issues and research as the home to multiple metropolitan area and numerous deep-water seaports, commercial airports, public transit systems, and a large system of transportation infrastructure. The FAU Boca Raton campus is one of the most beautiful university campuses in the nation, 30 minutes away from two international airports (FLL & PBI) and 45 minutes away from Miami/MIA. City of Boca Raton is ‘a jewel’ on Florida’s Atlantic Coast with a year‐around pleasant weather, numerous beaches and golf courses, and a variety of cultural and recreational activities that provide an outstanding quality of life.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will lead funded research projects; supervise graduate research assistants; conduct field experiments with automated vehicles; write research proposals and reports; assist undergraduate teaching; represent FAU ITS Lab at major conferences through publishable research work, and/or presentations at professional meetings. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work in a highly research‐oriented environment and on cutting‐edge research projects related to connected and automated vehicles, active traffic management, traffic operations, traffic simulation, and traffic flow theory. The selected candidate will also be involved in field experiments that are unique in the transportation research community. If desired, a successful applicant will have the opportunity to improve his/her instructional records by teaching sporadic lessons in transportation courses. The position is perfect for recently graduated post‐doctorates who are looking to boost their research and teaching records while searching for more permanent positions in academia.
