Brown University School of Engineering invites applications from both rising and established leaders in sustainable energy for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenure-track or tenured) levels. The successful candidate shall have an outstanding record of scholarship in emerging areas of sustainable energy, with preference given to one or more of the following: renewable energy conversion and energy storage; sustainable fuels and materials; and carbon dioxide capture / removal and utilization / sequestration. The successful candidate shall establish, or has established, an independent group in experimental and/or computational research, and is expected to collaborate with other Brown faculty members within and outside of the School of Engineering. We seek a faculty member who will contribute to the missions of the School of Engineering and the newly established interdisciplinary Initiative for Sustainable Energy (ISE), and will help advance science and technology towards a net-zero carbon future. We are particularly interested in scholars who demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in science and engineering.

About the Environment
Brown Engineering provides a unique environment, emphasizing the power of interdisciplinary thought with a focus on expanding connections across engineering disciplines and beyond traditional departmental boundaries. Brown Engineering has a long history of leadership in sustainable energy research, with further acceleration from a new Engineering Research building and the recent establishment of the ISE. The successful candidate will become affiliated with one or more of the disciplinary groups within the School of Engineering and contribute to the teaching efforts: Electrical and Computer Engineering; Chemical and Environmental Engineering; Fluids and Thermal Sciences; Materials Science; and Solid Mechanics.
With 25 core faculty members from 5 different academic units, and 50 faculty affiliates, the ISE vision is to drive breakthrough technological innovations and prepare leaders for a secure, equitable, and sustainable net-zero-carbon energy future. Focusing on renewable energy, sustainable fuels/materials, and energy efficiency research thrusts, ISE’s work is informed by, and is attentive to, the needs of industry, consumers, and the natural environment. The ISE serves as a ‘hub’ that drives regional net-zero carbon energy innovation and action, with national and global impact. The ISE mission is to activate research and educate future leaders in sustainable net-zero-carbon solutions.
Brown University School of Engineering seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce to maintain the excellence of the University, and to offer our students richly varied disciplines, perspectives, viewpoints, and ways of knowing and learning.
