The lab of Design Innovation and Intelligent Manufacturing (DIIM) is a new research group in the department of mechanical engineering at University of Guelph. We are expanding and always seeking excellent and self-motivated graduate students, postdocs, and visiting students/scholars for a wide range of research projects on 3D/4D Printing, Industrial 4.0, Sustainable Manufacturing, CAD/CAM, and Machine Learning.
Multiple positions are available under the following themes:
Position 1: data-driven mass customization of healthcare products
Position 2: multi-material and multi-scale design for additive manufacturing
Position 3: energy-efficient and resilient flexible manufacturing system with IoT technology
In these projects, the candidates will be exposed to cutting-edge topics on machine learning, product design, additive manufacturing, and IoT (internet of things) as well as receive training on 3D printers, material characterization, and advanced data processing techniques. Motivated students with the background of mathematics, computer science, manufacturing, mechanics, mechatronics, or engineering design are preferred. Applicants should have achieved average 80% (A- equivalent) or above in both undergraduate and graduate studies. Exceptional undergraduate will also be considered. Other requirements:
Hard-working, strong commitment, good communication skills, and teamwork spirit.
- Knowledge of at least one programming language (C++/C#/Python/Matlab) is mandatory.
- Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing process, generative design, machine learning, or IoT is an asset.
- These studentships are available for January, May, or September 2021 entries.
