Geomechanics and Geosensing Faculty Position
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Houston invites applications for a fulltime, tenure-track faculty position in the broad area of Geomechanics/Geosensing nexus. All qualified candidates are invited to apply at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, with encouragement for those with multidisciplinary interests.

Qualifications
We seek an exceptional individual to lead a dynamic, internationally recognized research and teaching program at the intersection of geomechanics modeling, geosensing, and machine learning/data analytics. The ideal candidate will have a background in civil and environmental engineering, geosciences, or geomatics, with a strong record of research excellence and scholarly publications in computational/theoretical modeling and its application to remote sensing technologies. We especially encourage applications from individuals whose work addresses natural hazards (e.g., earthquakes, landslides), geothermal energy, or nationally significant areas such as critical mineral exploration and recovery. Preference will be given to candidates who can: (1) Develop collaborative research programs integrating geomechanics and geosensing; (2) Contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching in related areas; and (3) Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning to large observational datasets in cross-cutting domains. The candidate will join a focused team of faculty members and research scientists that secures externally funded research grants and supports pedagogy within the multi disciplinary graduate research programs in the Cullen College of Engineering.

The appointment is anticipated at the assistant or associate professor level. The anticipated start date of this appointment\ is September 1, 2026. Applications received before December 1, 2025, will receive priority consideration; application review will continue until the position is filled.

University, College and Department: The University of Houston is in a park-like campus a few minutes from downtown Houston with over 39,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students. The CEE department currently has 23 tenured or tenure-track faculty members with over 300 undergraduates, and over 130 graduate students. The Cullen College of Engineering is ranked #44 in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report’s list of top public engineering programs across the nation. The College oversees state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities in partnership with the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Data Science Institute at the University of Houston and offers a college-wide MS program in Engineering Data Science and AI with about 300 students. Houston is the fourth largest city in the U.S. with over 6.8 million in population in the greater Houston area. It is the “energy capital of the world” and houses the largest medical center in the world. The greater Houston area offers state-of-the-art recreational facilities, world-class arts and cultural activities, excellent schools, and affordable housing.

How to Apply: Applications should include a curriculum vitae; research statement (not exceeding three pages); teaching statement outlining teaching philosophy, expertise, and interests (not exceeding two pages); and complete information for four references.
