The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates must have research expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) Catalysis (2) Catalytic materials (3) Reaction Engineering with applications in natural gas conversion, CO2 utilization and hydrogen production. The new faculty member will complement the already established and strong program in catalysis and reaction engineering in the department.
Eligible candidates should hold an earned Doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and/or Materials Engineering, or a closely related field and at least 1 year of postdoctoral experience in academia, government or industry. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated experience and skill in writing research proposals. Candidates must also have the ability to (1) teach a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the Department; (2) develop and sustain an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition, support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows and other research personnel, publish peer-reviewed papers, make presentations at national meetings and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams of faculty and other researchers within the department, college, and university; and (3) perform service activities commensurate with the position and to the efficiency and effectiveness of the faculty member’s department and college. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have an outstanding record of teaching, research and service.

The Statler College continues to grow, and currently has eight academic departments with over 4,200 students and 135 faculty members. It is nationally recognized for high quality teaching and research, as well as for its excellent faculty and students. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering has 14 faculty members and approximately 230 undergraduate and 60 graduate students. The Department offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels. The Biomedical Engineering program has eight participating faculty from several departments including Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
