Lecturer - General Engineering (Honors/Grand Challenge Scholars)
Clemson University: College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences: General Engineering

Location: Clemson, SC
Open Date: Aug 29, 2024

Description
The General Engineering Program, the Honors College, and the Grand Challenge Scholars Program at Clemson University invite applications for a multifaceted lecturer position to begin in the fall of 2025. The position will consist of three responsibilities: teaching honors sections of the General Engineering first-year course sequence, teaching an honors seminar course, and directing the Grand Challenge Scholars Program.

The General Engineering Program is a common first-year engineering program and serves as the gateway to the engineering majors. Candidates should have a passion for teaching fundamental mathematical and physical concepts to first-year engineering students. Experience using MATLAB or a similar programming language is required. Classes in General Engineering are taught in the SCALE-UP active learning environment. As such, the successful candidate must have the communication skills and energy to motivate students in large classes in a dynamic, interactive environment. Applicants are encouraged to visit www.clemson.edu/ces/ge to learn more about the General Engineering Program.

The successful candidate will also teach an interdisciplinary honors seminar on a topic of their choosing, developed in consultation with the Honors College. As honors seminars are open to members of the Honors College from any academic major without prerequisites, the honors seminar should be accessible to a wide range of high-achieving students. Applicants are encouraged to visit https://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/index.html to learn more about the Clemson University Honors College.

Additionally, the successful candidate will lead and direct the Clemson University Grand Challenge Scholars Program. The Grand Challenge Scholars Program (GCSP), an outcomes-driven initiative by the National Academy of Engineering for CECAS undergraduates, aims to foster ethical leadership by translating scholarship into practical solutions for societal challenges. The role encompasses academic mentoring, program management, and facilitating student initiatives.

Qualifications
The General Engineering Program seeks to attract a culturally, and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of knowledge. The successful candidate will demonstrate a dedication to inclusive excellence in higher education and a commitment to teaching and mentoring students. Candidates must have at least a Masters degree from an ABET accredited engineering program, but a PhD in an engineering discipline is strongly preferred. The General Engineering Program is fully committed to an ethnically diverse faculty and student body.
