Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities
The Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering will lead a teaching and research-balanced department, providing vision in concert with strategic planning of the department, which aligns with the goals, and strategic plan of the university. The Chair will lead the department to advance and accelerate research, innovation and education and facilitate collaborations across the university as well as nationally and internationally. The Chair will be responsible for departmental strategic planning, personnel and facility management, student cultivation, curriculum development, and other required duties.
Managing the administrative functions of the department including maintaining ABET/SACS accreditation requirements
Teaching one undergraduate/graduate course per semester
Advising students
Writing proposals and conducting research
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
Proven track record of accomplishment of leadership, scholarship and teaching that warrants a tenured track appointment at the rank of Associate/Full Professor.
Demonstrated administrative leadership and experience in higher education such as the director of a research center or research institute, chair/head of an academic department, or comparable position with responsibilities that included budgeting, strategic planning, personnel management, performance reviews, and promotion and tenure decisions.
Familiarity with higher education systems including ABET accreditation.
