Position # 003755, 003796, 004459

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte seeks candidates for multiple junior level, tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of metrology and advanced manufacturing. It is expected that the position will be at the Assistant Professor level, but appointments at all ranks will be considered.

UNC Charlotte is well known for the breadth and strength of its advanced manufacturing research group. These faculty work collaboratively in diverse areas including metal forming, metrology, additive manufacturing, surface finishing, machining, surface and dimensional metrology, freeform optics, and design of machines and instruments for advanced manufacturing. The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science provides access to state of the art research facilities, including world-class metrology tools and extensive precision engineering production equipment. The Department is home to the internationally recognized Center for Precision Metrology, and has strong participation in the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) within the college; a strong candidate will be able to interact with these centers and other industry partners.

Candidates are sought who either strengthen existing areas of manufacturing expertise or extend that expertise to new and emerging areas including, but not limited to, metal forming, additive manufacturing, sustainability, composite materials and polymer processing. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field and a background in existing areas of manufacturing expertise or extend that expertise to new and emerging areas including, but not limited to, metrology, materials science, metal forming, additive manufacturing, sustainability, composite materials and polymer processing. In addition, they must demonstrate significant accomplishments or outstanding potential in scholarship, teaching, and research, depending on the rank of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to: 1) develop nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research programs as evidenced by high-quality publications and successful mentoring of students; 2) contribute to teaching and curriculum development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; and 3) contribute to diversity initiatives at the University.

This position will remain open until filled. Review of applicants will begin on 12/15/2020.

As an EOE/AA employer and an ADVANCE Institution that strives to create an academic climate in which the dignity of all individuals is respected and maintained, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte encourages applications from all underrepresented groups.
