The Department of Process Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of mining and mineral processing engineering. Salary will be determined based on the qualifications of the successful applicant.

Applicants should have bachelor and PhD degrees in mining or mineral processing engineering, or related discipline, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: mining engineering, surface and underground mine planning, mining safety and health, mining and sustainability, mine environment, mining automation, mineral processing, metals extraction, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and materials science and engineering. Past working experience or collaboration in mining, mineral processing, metallurgical, and/or chemical industries is an asset. The successful candidate should be eligible to register as a P.Eng. with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and teach courses in the area of mining and mineral processing engineering including, but not limited to, mining methods and design, mining and the environment, mineral processing techniques, metallurgical process engineering, physical metallurgy, mining equipment and material handling, material science and engineering, chemistry & physics of engineering materials, and environmental aspects and safety in mining at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to establish and sustain a vigorous research program in mining engineering and mineral processing areas aligned with Memorial’s strategic research priorities, http://www.mun.ca/research/explore/srip/.

About the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science
The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science offers accredited undergraduate programs in civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, ocean and naval architectural engineering and process engineering, following a fully integrated co-operative education model. The oil and gas engineering stream is offered as a part of the process engineering undergraduate program. At the graduate level, the department of process engineering offers thesis-based master’s and doctoral programs in oil and gas engineering, and process engineering, as well as course-based master’s programs in oil and gas engineering and safety and risk engineering.
