Carthage College seeks a dedicated engineering educator to join the faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering starting August 2025. The successful applicant will be involved in shaping a new engineering program at Carthage; one that is informed by disciplinary best practices, meshes with the mission of the College, builds on the existing curricular strengths of the College, and engages meaningfully our community. We seek a teacher-scholar with expertise in thermal-fluids energy systems. Applicants from all engineering backgrounds will be considered.
Engineering at Carthage is a practice-based program. Students learn engineering through real projects with real stakeholders to address real needs for local industry and community partners. This academic program is rooted in the liberal arts, designed to emphasize student self-discovery and exploration and provide opportunities to grow in all facets of life. Engineering at Carthage is hands-on and experiential; students learn to become engineers by practicing engineering under the guidance of faculty mentors.
The successful applicant will be involved in shaping a new engineering program at Carthage that is informed by disciplinary best practices, meshes with the mission of the College, and builds on the existing curricular strengths of the College. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the teaching and advising needs of the undergraduate engineering programs as well as to engage undergraduate students in a collaborative, externally-funded scholarship program. Responsibilities include teaching 14 contact hours per semester in the program and developing curriculum for others. Applicants with background in thermal-fluids and energy systems are desired, though applicants from all engineering backgrounds will be considered.
Carthage College has a strong history of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, an active space technology development and demonstration program, significant local support in the community and through engineering-focused industries, and considerable extramural departmental funding to support undergraduate scholarships and research projects.
The Department of Engineering is in The Engineering Center, a brand-new 15,000 sq ft. facility in Lentz Hall housing faculty offices, student study spaces, classrooms and design studios, teaching and research labs, and a makerspace open to the Carthage community. The Engineering Center is adjacent to the David A. Straz Jr. Center, home to academic programs in computing, data science, mathematics, the natural sciences, and NASA's Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium.

- Meet all requirements for a Ph.D. in an Engineering discipline by August 2025
- Commitment to innovative curriculum development in engineering education
- Demonstrated record of or potential for successful undergraduate engineering instruction
- Demonstrated record of or potential for engagement of undergraduate engineering students into scholarly endeavors
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom
